Materials described here consist of records pertaining to the development of a CSEA constitution as well as records pertaining to national conferences between 1955 and 1957.

The materials described here consist of periodicals, off prints, government information circulars and other occasional publications from a variety of sources on the topics of Inuit art, the geography of circumpolar regions, and circumpolar culture and traditions. Also described here are materials relating to Canada’s southern First Nations. Items include an assortment of newsletters and other periodic publications as well as press releases, flyers and circulars from both governmental and non-governmental sources. In the case of periodical publications, most date from the 1960s to the early 1980s and complete runs are not present.

The images described here date from [ca.1955] to [ca.1980] and include photographs taken by George Swinton during his first trips to the Arctic during the 1950s. The images consist primarily of black and white photographic negatives and prints with a much smaller number of colour images. The subjects are Inuit sculpture and prints or drawings, with a small number of fur and fabric hangings also depicted. There are also some images of artists, workshop interiors and community landscapes. The images are literally a snapshot of Inuit art during the 1960s and 1970s with a large number of those images consisting of items then held in private collections. Information pertaining to the provenance of works of art is often found with the images. The images described here were arranged under the following headings:

The collection consists of over 200 clothing patterns in a variety of styles created by Inuit artisans to depict differences in clothing styles and construction in various regions of the north. The collection also includes photographs depicting skin preparation and pictorial instructions for measuring and pattern layouts. There is also one artifact.

The items described here consist of patterns for a woman's outer Amauti drawn by M. Katsuak of Tasiujarmiut. Directions for sewing are included on most of the large pieces, including, in some cases, cutting and finishing lines for particular individuals. Some of the pattern pieces have bits of fur sticking to them. The folder consists of sixteen pattern pieces, five sheets with layout instructions, one envelope with seventeen miniature pattern pieces, and the original folder label.

The items described here consist of two Amauti patterns. #5 was drawn by Mary Miki from Arviat. #6 is unattributed as to artist but it is for a young woman, childless, no husband and is from Arviat. The folder consists of eight pattern pieces, one information sheet, and the original folder label.

The items described here comprise three patterns drawn by Anita Iblanit. #10 and #11 and #12. Patterns #10 and #11 are for a young, unmarried, childless woman. #12 is for a married woman with children. The pieces are on a Government of Canada map and have blue and green edging drawn on. The folder consists of eight pattern pieces and the original folder label.

The items described here comprise two patterns drawn by Ulayak Kaviok of Paallirmiut in Arviat. They are a woman's Amauti. #16 is a panel with multiple pieces drawn on it. Some edges have been coloured. The patterns are on brown paper. There are no labels but terns on various parts of the pieces may indicate terminology for various parts. The folder consists of six pattern pieces, one envelope with six miniature pattern pieces, and the original folder label.

The items described here consist of pattern pieces for a woman's inner caribou parka. It was designed for a woman with a young baby or toddler and was drawn by Ulayok Kaviok of Paallimiut, Arviat.
